The End Fuel Poverty Campaign aims to offer practical help to people who are suffering from fuel poverty. 25,000 pensioners will die this year as a consequence of inadequate protection from the cold, so we thought it best to try and address those most vulnerable directly. A  key way of addressing this is to improve uptake of benefits amongst the least well off. In Norwich alone there are thousands of pensioners on low incomes who are entitled to benefits that will dramatically increase their income. In Norfolk there is an estimated £55 million in unclaimed benefits available for over 60s.

We plan to take actions to raise awareness (see "A Night of Misery below") of the issue, and to help pensioners claim their benefits (see "A Short Guide to Claiming Benefits for Over 60s" below)

A Short Guide to Claiming Benefits

The basic benefits guide we have made is available online here. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read it. The pamphlet is aimed at people who do not have access to the internet. If you do have internet access there is a vast amount of useful resources for people, a selection of which we'll have online soon. (in the meantime http://www.ageconcern.org.uk/ has a lot of useful information). 5000 copies are being printed, which we aim to have distributed by christmas. If you would like to help us distribute them send an email to norwichanarchists@hotmail.com . We are planning to meet on Monday 19th December to plan the main distribution effort for the following days, but let us know and we can get some for you to deliver in your area.
